Market tumbles to near 410 points

As selling pressure kept accelerating following news on Nguyen Duc Kien’s arrest, the local market tumbled for the second straight session on Wednesday, sending the VN-Index down 6.61 points, or 1.59%, from the previous day to close at 410.23. The market opened at the daily low of 404.17 before staging a partial recovery, which then triggered more selling before a second climb ended the morning...

News about the arrest of prominent businessman and boss of V-League club Hanoi Nguyen Duc Kien caused the stock market to take a nosedive as investors rushed to offload shares given fear of further losses. The VN-Index erased all the gains it obtained over the past two weeks, shedding 20.44 points, or 4.67%, from a day earlier to 416.84. The market opened lower and began to drop sharply in two stages...

Vietnam’s arrest of Nguyen Duc Kien, the founder of several banks, triggered the largest stock market drop in almost four years and highlighted investor concern about the vulnerability of the country’s financial system. Kien, 48, the founder of banks including Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) and Kien Long Bank, was arrested by police yesterday, the central bank said in a statement on its website... 

Blue-chips spur market rally

Brokers: Recovery signs unsustainable

The local market slightly bounced back last week but for securities firms, the rally might be short-lived as there were no signs of sustainable recovery over low liquidity. On the Hochiminh Stock Exchange, the two-day recovery of the VN-Index was primarily driven by a strong jump of VNM as investors continued to buy the VNM shares following its announcement of a bonus share proposal at the 2:1 ratio....

Market eases off lows despite poor liquidity

After four consecutive falling sessions, the local market staged a slight rebound on Thursday as investor demand picked up, with the VN-Index gaining 1.89 points, or 0.46%, from a day earlier to close at 414.8. The market opened in the black and climbed further to reach the daily high of 416.63 rather quickly before falling back again and touching Wednesday’s close at the end of the morning session.... 

HOSE’s capital requirement lifted to VND120 bil.

Enterprises having demand to list on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HOSE) are required to have minimum charter capital of VND120 billion from September 15, instead of the current VND80 billion. Under Government Decree 58/2012/ND-CP, enterprises must have at least two years operating as joint stock companies by the time they ask HOSE for permission to list. Besides, they must have a return on equity... 

Market retreats on low demand

After two rising sessions, the local market felt the impact of declines in major Asian indices on Tuesday. The VN-Index dropped 4.51 points, or 1.04%, against the previous session to close at 431.08. The market opened in the red but moved higher before reversing direction and ending the morning session on a weak note. In the afternoon, trading saw another drop to hit the daily low of 430.37 before... 

Market flat despite lower bank rates

Despite the central bank’s lowering lending and deposit rate caps, the local market saw no improvement on Monday given widespread investors cautioun, prompting the VN-Index to lose a slight 0.4 point, or 0.09%, against the previous session to close at 432.5. The market opened in the red but pushed up into positive territory before fluctuating in a narrow range on either side of Friday’s close...
